Nancy Werteen: Why do you feel joy is so powerful? Heather Rodale/cancer survivor: Joy is the root of our fondest memories and bonds with family and friends. It is also key to healing. My doctor told me that those who knew who they are healed better. When I focused on what brought me joy, and worked to increase those experiences, I began to heal more deeply than I could have imagined and new sources of joy emerged. By experiencing joy and working to increase it in my life, I found renewed meaning to my life.
